Link Preview Checker

Paste a web address and see the link preview your website gets on Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and X. You get three previews, six pass or fail badges and the ten tags I read from the page.

What to paste when a badge is red

Each line below turns one of the six badges green. Put them inside the <head> of the page and swap in your own text and addresses.

<title>Page title</title>
<meta name="description" content="One or two sentences about the page">
<meta property="og:title" content="Title for the shared card">
<meta property="og:description" content="Text under the title">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://yourbusiness.com/share.jpg">
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">

For the image, the cards on this page are 1.91 times wider than they are tall. The share image I use on this site is 1200 by 630 pixels, which is that shape.

How this checker reads your page

  • It reads the first 256 KB of the HTML your server sends and follows up to 4 redirects.
  • Scripts are not run, so a tag added by JavaScript shows as missing.
  • The Facebook and LinkedIn card is drawn from og:title and og:description. When they are absent, the card is filled from the title tag and the meta description, and the badge stays red so you still see the gap.
  • The picture is taken from og:image, then from twitter:image.
  • An image address that does not load leaves an empty grey box in the card. The words "No share image" appear only when the tag itself is absent.
  • You can run 40 checks an hour.

Open Graph tags and saved previews, explained

What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph (OG) tags are meta tags in the head of a page. They tell Facebook, LinkedIn, X and messaging apps which title, description and image to show when the link is shared. Visitors do not see them on the page itself.

Why does my shared link look wrong or blank?

Run the page through the checker and look at the six badges above the previews. A red "Share image (og:image)" badge means the page has no og:image tag, so the card has no picture. A red og:title or og:description badge means the card text is borrowed from the title tag and the meta description.

My image looks right here but not on Facebook. Why?

Facebook and LinkedIn keep a saved copy of the old preview. After you fix your tags, paste your URL into the platform's own debugger (Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector) and click "Scrape again" to replace the saved copy.

Missing share tags are one of 95 things I check

This tool draws the preview for one page. My free website audit crawls up to 20 of your pages and reports how many have no Open Graph title or image, next to speed, SEO, security, accessibility and email. It takes about 30 seconds.
